For Gilpin RE-1 School Board
My name is Tracy Krug, and I’m excited for the opportunity to run for Gilpin County School District RE-1 School Board. I’m a passionate advocate for children of all ages, and I look forward to combining my career in education with a chance to help influence a positive direction for the entire school district. As an active member of the Gilpin Countycommunity for over 17 years and a parent to twin boys who attended Gilpin County School for most of their school career, I have strong roots here, and I look for opportunities to strengthen others and assist our youth.
My intention as a Gilpin County School Board Member is to support the continued implementation of improvements for the growth of all students through sound decisions grounded in data that positively impact the academic and social emotional needs of all students. To be successful in this endeavor, we must build on the foundation of continually growing our academic excellence, caring culture, and safe environment. I bring a strong educational perspective to the conversation; I see the big picture and can identify areas of strength along with areas that need to be strengthened. I am committed to having the challenging conversations as needed and I am also “comfortable in the uncomfortable” to always focus on what is best for the students. I am committed to collaborate with fellow board members to make informed decisions based on all the information provided and through my own research.
Professionally, I have been a servant to others during my entire career. My professional experience started in child welfare in Pennsylvania and worked my way up to Assistant Administrator for Monroe County Children and Youth Services. During this time I acquired my Masters in Psychology to complement my Bachelors in Special Education. After staying at home with my twin boys for several years and moving to Gilpin County, I joined the staff at Gilpin County School in 2007 as the Librarian where I worked with all elementary students from preschool through 6th grade. I later became the Reading Interventionist and Instructional Coach while also coaching the middle school and high school cheerleaders. I also went back to school and received my Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership in 2015. I wanted to further my impact in education so I joined JeffCo Public Schools as an Instructional Coach at Parr Elementary, then became the Assistant Principal at Lawrence and Hackberry Hill Elementary Schools. Currently, I’m Assistant Principal at Hackberry Hill Elementary, a Gifted and Talented Center where my focus is to advance learning for all children and staff.
I spend my personal time giving back to others in various ways. I’ve been an active board member of St. James United Methodist Church. Through my connections, I was able to bring several volunteers into the school to assist in various capacities, enhance a connection to support families in need during various holidays, and advance the school and community relationships. Currently, I’m serving on the Board of Directors for Grab the Torch, which provides learning for high school girls focused on leadership, ethics, purpose, and philanthropy. Finally, I enjoy teaching self-defense to females – it’s one of the ways I can positively influence and prepare others to be safe and successful in life.
In summary, I look forward to serving our community in the capacity of Gilpin County School District RE-1 Board Member by bringing my skills, passion, and positive attitude to advance the academic excellence, caring culture, and safe environment at Gilpin County School. I’m asking for your vote on November 5th to serve you in this most important position.
