For District Attorney in the First Judicial District
PRESS RELEASE – Matthew Durkin, Chief Deputy District Attorney JD1, officially announced his run for District Attorney in the First Judicial District in 2020 at the Jefferson County Organizational Meeting in Lakewood Colorado in February. The current DA, Pete Weir, is term limited. The First Judicial District encompasses Jefferson and Gilpin Counties. Durkin has a long history of serving the community in Jefferson County as well as throughout the state of Colorado. “I am humbled by the support I have already received,” Durkin said, “I have built a strong team that will ensure that we are continuing the great work of our current District Attorney, Pete Weir and ensuring Justice for all.”
Durkin was surrounded by his family, friends, and supporters during his inspiring speech, including State Representative Colin Larson, former County Commissioner Tina Francone in Jefferson County, former candidate for Senate District 20, Christine Jensen, and many more.
“I am excited to support Matthew in his run for JD1,” Christine Jensen stated, “I know he is willing to put in the work that it will take to win this race in Jefferson and Gilpin Counties.”
“I know we have a long hard race ahead of us, but I am excited,” Matthew said. Durkin is currently Chief Deputy District Attorney in the First Judicial District, but has also served on the state level. “I have the experience necessary to serve as the District Attorney for Jefferson and Gilpin Counties.”
