Violet Roberta Jean Aandres Schrock Duebel ended her three-year struggle with cancer last Sunday, March 27, with her husband Rich and members of her family with her. On Saturday she had told Pastor Hansen Wendlandt that she was ready for her next adventure, graciously accepting her passage.
Born in Vancouver, Washington on July 14, 1943, Violet and her four siblings came from a background where each of the children became proficient gardeners with the canning fruits and vegetables. She entered Washington State University to study animal husbandry. When she graduated from college she married an Air Force man and went to Quebec where she taught Kindergarten at the Air Force School. In the late 60s, Violet studied art in Taos and watercolor became her passion. In 1974, she came to Nederland to be closer to the wilderness she loved to paint.
Violet found their dream house along South Boulder Creek and Hwy 72 where she built a great garden. She worked with the Denver Botanical Garden, volunteering in their Alpine section, and she invited students to fish in her trout ponds and hosted picnics in her garden.
She and Rich were married in 2003 after meeting online and have enjoyed developing a healthy life style and a healing outlet for friends and neighbors in the mountains.
Violet was preceded in death by parents Liscomb E. Schrock of Burley Idaho and Helen A. Swanson of McBridge, South Dakota. She left behind her husband Richard Deubel, brother Edward J. Schrock and his wife Cindy of Longview, Washington; Sister Bette L. Marsh, of Longview, Washington; brother Monte D. Schrock and his wife Donna of Longview, Washington and sister Tracey E. Schrock and her husband Allen of Kelso, Washington; her aunt, Eva E. Johnson, of Longview, Washington; and many nieces and nephews and two sets of twin, great nephews.
There will be a memorial on Monday, April 4 at 5 p.m. at the Nederland Community Presbyterian Church. Donations made can be made to the church.
She will be missed by everyone who knew her.
